What is a Konjac Sponge?
The konjac sponge is the natural, soap and chemical free answer to skin cleansing.
First developed by the Japanese and used for over 100 years as a gentle soap free alternative to wash babies. The konjac sponge gets its unique name and properties from its main ingredient which comes from the konjac Potato.
What the heck is a Konjac Potato?
Tha konjac potato is the root of the Amorphous Konjac. A plant native to Asia and found growing wild in Indonesian rain-forests, monsoon areas of southwest China and parts of Japan. For centuries it has been a vital food source and used in traditional medicine for its unique medicinal properties.
The konjac potato is made up of 97% water and 3% glucummonan (vegetable fibre) as well as being rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and naturally being alkaline. The glucommonan fibre is elastic and has a high affinity for holding water and gives the konjac sponge its very unique properties.
Ok, but how does the konjac sponge work?
Because of the glucommonan fibre’s ability to hold water, A wet konjac sponge provides a thin layer of water between the skin and the sponge allowing it to gently exfoliate and cleanse the skin of excess oil and dirt. The gentle exfoliation helps minimise pores from becoming clogged and leaves the skin feeling smooth.
